Subject

Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM) is a technique that aims at inferring the energy consumption profiles of individual loads from a single or a limited number of measurement points at the building level. NILM was first proposed in 1992 by studies from researches in MIT and France. Since then it has witnessed a rapid and increasing progress due to its promising applications that include more efficient energy conservation, home automation, pricing per end-use, and activity monitoring. Research on NILM flourished mainly in three directions: extraction of more distinctive load signatures, developing smarter disaggregation algorithms, and acquiring power measurements for training, test, and validation of developed systems. At the Institute of Signal processing and System theory (ISS), we contribute to all these directions and work on different, novel approaches for energy disaggregation.
